The information that was discussed in class was fun. The most interesting part was the Shakira/Pepsi commercial. As a media illiterate, I learned how to pay attention to the messages in commercials. I enjoyed the poem that with the incorrect spelling. Also, I discovered www.snopes.com and I think I will use this search engine for my curriculum project.

Yesterday we learned how to understand visual images. We watched the Shakira Pepsi commercial and learned how to spot a stereotype, isolate a social cliche and distinguish the facts from propaganda. We caught the image of the cross and and spiritual cloud over Shakira in the Pepsi commercial. All it took was one frame to capture a viewer. Prior to this class, I would watch commericials but never really look at the details or figure out what the target audience was for the advertising company. Last night I caught myself looking at the choice of music, the color scheme, hidden symbols, and the target audience.

Last class about media literacy was very interesting. It is shocking how some small signs that may be hidden in an advertisment can ban it. It is also shocking how many advertisments are openly shown now in movies
I learned how to do a blog and make a booklet it was fun. ANd i hope this does not turn up as a e-mail
I enjoy learning about new technology in class!!!
Yesterday we made mini books about a power point lecture that Professor Yildiz did. It was a very interesting lecture, and I liked it. We also learned about hidden messages in the media, and how to blog, and about snopes.com

I missed the class yesterday, but I hear that we made a book which I made today. I'm sure yesterday was a lot of fun.
I have been learning a lot about media literacy in this class and I look forward to learning more.
I do agree that media literacy is important in the classroom. Kids most likely do not realize how often the media reinforces stereotypes and/or manipulates us into buying a product because we think it will make us look a certain way. I used to watch Disney movies as a child and never realized how the many of the "evil" characters usually had a darker skin tone, such as Ursala in The Little Mermaid. I think that if teenagers were made more aware of these issues they would be able to apply these critical thinking skills to other areas.
I visited the website: http://www.merlot.org/Home.po (posted under week 4)to learn more information about my curriculum project, childbirth. As I searched for my subject, it brought me to a reliable source (www.childbirth.org) that I will think of incorporating into my CP. There are plenty of pictures and fun facts that I can add into my project to make it more interesting.
